Today in the U.S., 1 in every 8 babies will be born prematurely. Some of them won't survive, and others will have health problems that could last a lifetime. The funds we raise in WalkAmerica support research that saves babies' lives. Zachary, who was born 5 1/2 weeks premature, received care in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which was developed from research by the March of Dimes. Zachary does have various developemental delays and receives various supplemental therapies through TJ Middle School, where he attends 7th grade! Zack is a past North Jersey Ambassador for the March of Dimes. He and his brother Bradley, received the 2006 Brunguard Award for Youth Fundraising. He has appeared at various fundraising events, been interviewed on WPLJ NY radio (with Scott and Todd in the Morning and had a song dedicated to him for the cause on Race Taylor's lunchtime show), helped out with his brother at the NJ Jackals March of Dimes night (he even threw out the first pitch), was interviewed in the January 2006 issue of the Parent Paper, and had in previous years apeared in a News12 NJ Public Service Announcement. Zack and Brad have both helped with the magical Night of Giving at Jersey Gardens Mall, has collected cell phones for the cause with the help of the Scout Pack he is with (Pack 45 in Fair Lawn NJ), friends and families and has raised money and awareness for the cause--over $2000 in 2005 and over $3,000 in 2006 and 2007!! The Town of Fair Lawn even made a proclamation for ZACHARY STEIN DAY for his work with the March of Dimes. He and his younger brother Bradley (with Mom and Dad) are great supporters of the cause and enjoy helping others along the way! We have a large goal to meet this year, and Zachary wants to prove that he can do it with your kind help!! In 2007, Zack dedicated his Bar Mitvah charity work to the March of Dimes.
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
